Humanist Celebrant | Yorkshire
I was a secondary English teacher for 10+ years, ultimately as a Head of Department in Suffolk. Relocating to Yorkshire, by chance I was introduced to the idea of training as a Humanist Celebrant. It turned out to be the new challenge I’d been waiting for. I now work as a Celebrant throughout Yorkshire, Manchester, Derbyshire, Cheshire and beyond.
Everything changed from there: timetables, bells and marking one minute; ceremonies, writing and self-employment the next. Different worlds, but luckily a host of transferable skills.
Starting life in 2010, YTD soon grew: over 12+ years I’ve had the pleasure of leading 350+ humanist ceremonies for the widest client range imaginable.
However, the more ceremonies I designed, created and led, the more I began to realise the wider context in which my bespoke writing could flourish.
‘We knew we’d be privileged to have Hannah conduct our humanist service. On the day, undaunted by severe weather, Hannah and her husband WALKED 10 miles, over the moors, to make sure she was there. Amazing!’

These early ideas have developed to the point where they’re now two separate sister businesses: Words and Wisdom and Portraits in Prose.
Words and Wisdom offers versatile bespoke written elements which are designed to enhance any ceremony, reception or videography – this also includes legally compliant wedding scripts.
Portraits in Prose are bespoke text commissions celebrating life’s milestones that you then can frame, style or photo book – for yourself or an ideal gift.
This has opened up a whole new audience, unrestricted by geography/specific date availability…but it’s my bespoke ceremonies that’ll always be the heart of it all.
