Out Barn Clitheroe humanist wedding | Tamsin + Matty
The Out Barn in Clitheroe is one of my favourite spaces in which to lead one of my Your Three Days humanist weddings. First of all, it’s a generous space, with plenty of glass and therefore light, so it’s an impressive room to enter and sit in as a guest. The extensive views through the windows at the front add to the effect, in this case complimented by the most beautiful natural floristry, and the acoustics are always fabulous. It really is a pleasure to perform in there and the memory of Tamsin and Matty’s ceremony is one I’ll treasure for the rest of my Celebrant career and beyond.
Tamsin and Matty were and will always be two of the most characterful clients I’ve ever worked for – and I mean that in celebration, rather than code. They each had extensive theatre experience, which meant they really understood the impact certain decisions about our running order or positioning would make. They also sensed from our very first phone call just how much potential the right wedding ceremony had to enrich their day. They took it seriously from Day One, but there was so much laughter from our very beginning. It’s hard to imagine a better combination of energy, intuition and imagination in a client.

Tamsin + Matty
As always, the fact that Tamsin and Matty were prepared to put some time, care and effort into it all – our planning, my process and the answers they took on, individually and together – gave me all the ingredients I needed to create a really strong script. We told their story from how they first got together through to the extraordinary duo they are today, capturing all the values that are so important to them along the way. The various anecdotes had the room in stitches. You can always tell how true something is by how much a couple’s friends and family members laugh on the day!
However, the absolute emotional peak of the whole ceremony was Tamsin and Matty’s hand-fasting. We had already paid tribute to Matty’s much-loved grandad Ron, who had been meant to act as one of our Best Men, but who had sadly passed away a few months before. So instead we began by playing a beautiful voicemail Ron had left on Matty’s phone one day and then while music played Tamsin and Matty’s parents’ stood to wind the ribbons around their hands. It was really the epitome of what a truly bespoke humanist wedding ceremony can be and a moment that could not have been any more treasured or special.
